Why Acupuncture: My Path To Alternative Care

I wanted to share a bit about my personal background and why I am so passionate about integrative care and veterinary acupuncture.

Growing up with a father who was an emergency physician, Western medicine was always a central part of my life. As a veterinarian, I hold Western medicine in high regard and recognize its vital role in healthcare. Acupuncture cannot solve every problem, nor is it a standalone solution for emergency medical conditions. However, my own journey showed me how powerful it can be alongside conventional medicine.

During my young adult life, I struggled with a circulatory disorder that severely impacted my day-to-day routine. After consulting multiple specialists and experiencing severe side effects from various medications, I was advised to consider a specialized, experimental surgery. Wanting to avoid such an invasive procedure, I decided to try acupuncture, despite having low expectations.

After several sessions combined with targeted herbal treatments, my condition improved dramatically. Over time, my symptoms resolved almost entirely. Eventually, I was able to maintain my health with just a few sessions a year as needed. What I love most about acupuncture is its ability to rebalance and reset the body as a whole, supporting overall health and recovery.

Following this experience, I made it my mission during my time at North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine to pursue formal training in the field. I began studying through Chi University in China and Florida during my second year of veterinary school. After graduating, completing an internship, and working for several years in general equine practice, I finished my studies and became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist.

Over the years, I have seen countless animals benefit tremendously from acupuncture—both as a primary treatment for specific conditions and as a complementary therapy following Western medical workups.
